Dr. Ruchika Wason Singh is a visual -artist, academician and researcher based in Delhi. She holds degrees in B.F.A. (Painting) 1997 and M.F.A. (Painting) 1999 from College of Art, New Delhi, India. In 2008 she received Ph.D for research on the sociological frameworks in Indian Contemporary Art from University of Delhi. This research was supported by the prestigious Junior Research Fellowship, U.G.C. , India (2001-2006) .She has had two solo exhibitions Yesterday,Once More (2002) , Triveni Gallery and Transit Spaces (2007) , Lalit Kala Akademi Galleries, New Delhi, India. Ruchika has exhibited in several international platforms for art and research such as Prescriptions, Beaney Art Museum, Kent, U.K. (2016); 15th International Calligraphy & Painting Exchange Exhibition , Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, Tokyo, Japan (2016), Conversation in Platform, Tsinghua University, Beijing (2009) and The Third Beijing International Art Biennale (2008). Her writings on art have been published in Indian Creative Minds, Lalit Kala Contemporary, Studies in the Maternal, Visual Studies and the blog of Centre for Medical Humanities.She is the recipient of the Travel Grant from Arts Network Asia (2008).
Her ongoing work since 2013 is the Project Cancer Diary , which stems from her experience of diagnosis of early stage breast cancer in 2012. Chemotherapy, mastectomy and lymphedema as embodied experiences inform her cathartic project, which she has been creating in sumi-e ink, gouache ,found materials on paper. She is currently Associate - Professor (Contractual), Department of Painting, B.F.A., College of Art, New Delhi and Member, Editorial Board, Journal of Mother Studies.
