Nuala Morse is currently the Research Associate for 'Not So Grim Up North' an Arts Council England funded project which explores the impact of museum encounters on health and wellbeing outcomes for a range of audiences (mental health service users; addiction recovery service users; older adults living with dementia; and stroke survivors), in partnership with the Whitworth Art Gallery and Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums and researchers at UCL (Helen Chatterjee)
Nuala has an interdisciplinary background that crosses human geography, museum studies and the medical humanities; and a research ethos and practice that is underpinned by participatory action research. Her PhD (Geography, Durham) explores the politics and practices of participation in museums. Nuala's recent research interests include the distinctive nature of the 'social work' of museum professionals and their practices of care; the role of the museum as a space of social care and recovery; and role of (heritage) objects in relationships of care.
