Matthew Lariviere is a PhD candidate in the School of Health Sciences at the University of East Anglia. His current doctoral work is a multi-sited ethnography linked to a national, randomised controlled trial called ATTILA that is determining the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of assistive technology and telecare to delay people with dementia permanently moving to care homes. The ethnographic project seeks to understand in what ways, why and how people with dementia and their families use, abandon, or subvert these devices as part of their everyday, socio-material reality living in their own homes.
