Sarah Campbell is a Research Associate in the Dementia and Ageing Research Team (DART) at the University of Manchester. She is particularly interested in the body and embodiment, dementia and identity, intersectionality and citizenship and dementia. She has previously worked for the Mental Health Foundation and her methodological foundations are rooted in sensory and visual ethnography, critical ethnography and phenomenology.
Sarah is currently working with Richard Ward on the ‘Neighbourhoods and Dementia’ research programme, jointly funded by the ESRC and NIHR, exploring the meaning and experience of neighbourhood for people with dementia and their carers. Her previous research includes ‘The Hair and Care Project’ with Richard Ward, a 28-month, ESRC-funded investigation into social care practice, and issues of appearance management, for people with dementia.
Sarah is currently leading an ESRC transformative funding scheme to develop work on Multi-Sensory Biographies in Dementia Care. Working with John Keady (her co-supervisor, with Richard Ward, on a part-time PhD), she is also engaged on a six month evaluation of a music therapy intervention within a care home.
